FUNCTIONAL SCULPTURE

Functional sculpture pushes against the limits of genre. Blurring the lines between sculpture and furniture, it refuses to be categorized or pigeon holed. Although based on traditional sculpture techniques it is absolutely original in design having no historical precedent and is highly collectable as a 21st century design first.
Its flowing flamboyance is counter intuitive to furniture design principles and falls more within the realm of sculpture. Functional sculptures utility is a secondary consideration, the aesthetic taking precedence over the usual boring restrictive limitations of furniture design.
Inspired by natural movement in nature it harmonizes on a human level, perhaps because of the absence of straight lines and corners. Straight lines do not exist in nature, they are an invention of man, convenient for the mass production of impersonal objects, but alien to our soulfulness.
